Epo'o ICTRAZ Project

Information and Computing Technology for Remote Areas in Zambia, ICTRAZ

While Internet access is burgeoning in Zambia, the vast bulk of activity remains only in the major cities and urban towns. The rural regions are still largely unrepresented on the information super-highway.

Epo’o Trust wants to do something about that. The simple aim here is to bring the Internet Cafe model right into the rural village.

The ICTRAZ project has five potentially deliverable milestones that Epo’o intends to fulfil at each site.

(a)   Access to fast networks, e.g. the fibre-optic network currently operated by Zamtel.

(b)   Access to modern computing equipment (operating Windows XP, Vista etc).

(c)   Access of other peripheral services (e.g. scanning, printing, fax, library services, etc).

(d)   Transfer of education, including computing and other skills (Windows, Software Applications, and technical and commercial knowledge).

(e)   Total Technology Transfer (TTT) where we empower individuals to own the technology in their own homes/ communities wherever possible.

Once the milestones are successfully delivered to a site, the project should then roll-out to a number of other sites under the 2010 Rule (twenty sites and ten stations, or twenty stations at ten sites).

The project will also create at least three jobs at each site.
